If you are 20 - 24 years of age, you should now be immunized against one cause of meningitis, called Meningococcal C infection.

Meningococcal Infection can cause Meningitis and Septicaemia (blood poisoning). The MenC Vaccine will protect you against one of the common types, but will not protect against all types of the disease.

This potentially serious illness that has been the cause of infectious outbreaks at many of our schools and universities. The MenC Vaccine has already been offered to people under 20 years old, with tremendous success. It is now available to everyone under 25 years old. Whilst the risk of the disease is generally low in adults, there is a greater risk for people aged between 20 and 24 years.

If you have previously had the MenC Vaccine at university or when you started higher education you will not need to have the vaccine again.

However, if you have not had the MenC Vaccine and you are aged 24 or under, the please contact the surgery to make an appointment with the Nurse to have the vaccine.
